September is the best-kept secret of savvy travelers. The summer crowds have departed, prices plummet, the weather remains ideal, and destinations regain their authentic charm. Here are our 10 best ideas for traveling in September 2026 without breaking the bank.
Why September is the ideal month to travel
Traveling in September means enjoying prices up to 40% cheaper than in July and August, while still enjoying summer weather around the Mediterranean. Flights and accommodations drop in price from the first week, and tourist sites become pleasant to visit again.
This is also the best time to book last minute: demand drops, and airlines and hotels drastically reduce the price of unsold seats. Remember to compare prices regularly to snag the best deals.
